The crematorium in Košice was built between 1975-1981. Due to insufficient maintenance by the original tenant, it underwent reconstruction between 2022 - 2023. A solution to the deteriorating condition of the sculpture is still out of reach. Similarly, like other artistic objects not belonging to the families of the authors, the sculpture "Metamorphosis" is slowly decaying.
Thanks to the Bartusz family and art historian Gabriela Garlatyova, works of the significant sculptor Maria Bartuszova, including models of the sculpture "Metamorphosis," have been exhibited in prominent galleries abroad after her death (TATE Modern in London, MM in Salzburg, MOMA in Warsaw). In Slovakia, she never had a solo exhibition during her lifetime, and her name remains unknown to most Slovaks to this day.
