Villa Mathé is an example of minimalist architecture from the Weimar Bauhaus school, enriched with elements of Scandinavian architecture. Seven years after the death of Ján Mathé, it was declared a National Cultural Monument. Three years later, his widow, Eva Mathéová, gifted the villa to the city of Košice. In 2023, the Museum Villa Atelier Mathé was established under the administration of the city, with the primary mission of preserving the architectural heritage and artistic legacy of Ján Mathé.
