Fountain for the Galanta Hospital / 1988
Juraj Gavula, Academic Sculptor / *1942
Jindřich Martin, Architect / *1940
Juraj Gavula is known for his works found in hospital parks, which is reflected in the title of his monograph Healing Through Sculpture. In his creations, he avoided socialist ideology, focusing instead on universal themes and aesthetics drawn from nature and its organic forms. He had a long-term collaboration with architect Jindřich Martin, who became famous for his modern approach to architecture and urbanism. One of his most well-known projects was the Rázsochy hospital in Bratislava in the 1980s. After decades of the structure's deterioration, a decision was made in 2020 to demolish it. To this day, Rázsochy remains a symbol of unrealized potential and lost opportunity in Slovak architecture and healthcare.
